A Boho Wedding

News· Themes· Wedding Planning

A boho wedding… we are sure you’ll have heard this term banded about on Instagram and Pinterest. But what exactly is it?!

The term ‘boho’ is short for bohemian and can be defined as “a socially unconventional person, especially one who is involved in the arts”.

And a boho-themed wedding can incorporate an eclectic mix of rustic, natural and vintage elements into the design. Organic linens, earthy details and a plethora of floral centerpieces and greenery installations can help create a dream bohemian wedding. Linking into a rustic theme, a boho wedding is all about whimsy and romance!

So… how do you know if you’re a boho bride? Well, if you’re carefree, easy-going and super relaxed… you could indeed be a boho bride! You style could be described as unique and non-traditional – and the idea flowy wedding dresses, wild bouquets and plenty of fairy lights fills you with happiness and inspiration.

What sets a boho wedding apart from any other? A boho wedding is all about a connection to nature. The ceremony will be relaxed and stress-free, romantic and magical! And, most of all, will enable you to be free to express your creativity within your service and reception!

Let’s break it down…

The wedding gown

Loose, relaxed, flowy… with a certain super-special detail… that’s what we’re looking for here! No specific cut, colour or shape can be depicted for a boho wedding dress – it’s all about you and what feels authentic to you! That’s the magic of boho! From embroidery and lace to hippie and vintage, these are perfect ideas for a wedding gown for a boho bride and the choice is yours!

A boho bride looks for a relaxed, comfortable and laid-back dress, whilst still wanting to look feminine and delicate. From long-sleeved gowns to romantic open-back dresses, you will be sure to find something that is just perfect for you!

The accessories

Think wild and free! A flower crown or a laced hair band – both perfect accessories for a boho bride – to be teamed with a loose braid or messy beach waves, of course!

The flowers

Usually, the flowers in a boho wedding a meadow-style, wild and colourful. They are perhaps not accurately arranged, more sprawling and how they would appear in nature.

Get in touch with Wild Bramble Blooms to discuss your requirements!

The decorations

Natural, non-traditional and unconventional are all terms which could be used to describe the decorations for a boho-themed wedding. Natural and neutral or colourful and playful – whatever speaks to you! Lanterns and fairy lights can help with the lighting and flower garlands and small bouquets (as discussed earlier) can form your floral decor.

What’s wonderful about a boho-themed wedding is that you can integrate thrifted finds and handmade elements into your decoration and accessories too – have fun with DIY and make your day super personal!

Flossie’s Wedding may be able to help with the decor of your boho-style wedding!

The cake

Very often still seen in the boho wedding is a naked cake – because it fits perfectly in with the theme of natural and neutral! Bringing in floral or leafy elements to decorate is also a fun idea to tie everything together. Simple and minimal are the keys here!

Contact Zig Zag Cakes or The Sugared Thistle Cake Co. to discuss your ideas in detail.

The venue

Any place that brings you and your guests close to nature is a perfect venue for your boho wedding! A farmhouse, a barn, a forest or wooded area – these are all great ideas to celebrate your big day with family and friends. Nature-based venues – such as your own garden or a wild meadow – are typical for a boho-style wedding.

The food and drink

No three-course sit-down meal here! Relaxed, informal and creative are the themes of your boho wedding! Food trucks, street carts, picnics, bowl food (where small portions of your favourite dishes are served in a bowl so your guests can enjoy the food whilst mingling) are all fun ideas to provide your family and friends with food they’ve probably never consumed at a wedding before!

Whilst you may still love to serve a glass of champagne to your guests, there are plenty of other options to create a truly special drinks menu. You could contact a local brewery to provide craft beers, a soft-drinks station where guests can help themselves to a Diet Coke or a Sprite – or perhaps a cocktail hour to service your signature cocktails!

The takeaways

Remove conventions! A boho wedding is about you as a couple, what you love and how you want to spend one of the most important days of your lives! Remember that boho weddings are not classic weddings, therefore, get rid of the idea that ‘we have to’ and reintroduce ‘we want to’….
